Simple is Better!
Breakfast doesn’t have to be complicated to be healthy. And believe it or not, some of the simplest breakfasts are the most satisfying.
The Truth about Breakfast
When they say that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, they’re really not lying. This is the meal that really counts, because it’s going to provide you with all of the energy you need to get your day started. Doing breakfast right means you’re more likely to start your day off right. It’s as simple as that.
Here are a few things you want to consider when it comes to breakfast:
1. Is it balanced?
A good breakfast is one that contains all of the major nutritional components. This include a solid serving of protein, healthy carbs for energy, and healthy fats to boost metabolism. It should also have a good dose of all your vitamins and minerals.
2. Is it healthy?
This one sounds pretty obvious, but you’ve got to make sure your breakfasts are healthy if you want to get the most out of them. This means avoiding any fried foods, making sure all grains are whole grains only, and that you’re not pumping yourself full of processed sugar.
3. Is it going to keep you full?
You want a breakfast that’s going to give you lots of energy to last you all morning long – and even into the afternoon. The best ingredients to accomplish this are protein and fiber. Make sure you get a decent amount of each, and you’ll find those cravings take longer to set in.
Once you’ve got those things covered, you should be good to go.
To help set you off on the right path, I’ve got a healthy breakfast to keep you fuller, longer. This one’s pretty simple, but it’s a great way to get started. Plus it covers everything I’ve outlined above.
A Simple, Healthy Breakfast to Keep You Full and Energized
We’re going to start with one of the most fiber-rich morning ingredients available – oats. Oats, and alternatively oat bran, are extremely high in fiber and protein, and will keep you feeling full all morning long. So this is going to serve as the base of this simple breakfast.
Here’s everything you need:
- 1 cup of plain quick oats (or any variety, depending on your time in the morning)
- ½ cup of mixed berries (fresh or frozen)
- ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of honey
- 1 tablespoon of fat-free Greek yogurt
Heat up the oats with some water on the stove or in the microwave to the desired consistency. If you have frozen berries, heat them up along with the oats, or stir them in fresh afterwards. Sprinkle on your cinnamon, drizzle on your honey, and top with yogurt for a nice creamy texture.
It’s really that simple! This oats and berry bowl has everything you need to stay full and energized all morning long. The berries are full of antioxidants and vitamins, the cinnamon will give your metabolism an extra boost, and the honey will sweeten things up while also serving as an extra source of energy. As for the Greek yogurt, this will give your breakfast a healthy extra serving of protein.
