5 Strategies for Losing 5 Pounds in 30 Days
Up Your Water Intake
You may have heard this tip before, but it seems like people are focusing a little less on water these days when it comes to losing weight. That’s a mistake, because water is definitely your friend when you want to slim down.
Why is water so great for weight loss? The biggest factor is your appetite. We all know how difficult cravings can be on a healthy diet, but water satisfies a lot of those cravings and keeps your stomach wanting a little less. On top of that, water keeps you energized so you can get more out of your workouts. If you want to add some flavor try some cucumber or lemon and check out my article Lemon Water Benefits.
Looking for boosting your recovery and adding more flavor to your water? Try adding a 0-calorie intra-workout or post-workout mix like Scivation Xtend, it’s pretty satisfying and packed full of amino acids to help your muscles recover.
Avoid Processed Sugar
This one may be news to some, but most experts now agree that the processed sugar we add to so many foods is the worst culprit for weight gain and added sugar is hiding in many foods you would never expect like whole wheat bread, dried fruit, low calorie yogurts, and especially in most energy bars that claim to be healthy like Cliff Bars.
The problem with sugar is two-fold. When it’s not used up and burned off, it’s converted to fat, which is obviously not a good thing when trying to lose weight. On top of that, processed sugar is metabolized very quickly, so it causes a big spike in your blood glucose level. This leaves you craving more bad stuff and also crashing with energy 30 minutes to 60 minutes after having the bad stuff.
If sugar’s a hard one for you, take a look at my article on How to Quit Sugar in 30 Days.
Watch Out for Hidden Calories
This is a big one for eating out. You may think you’re doing your work when you try to calculate the calories of each meal, but there are typically a lot more calories in those meals than you think. Restaurants are notorious for adding a lot of butter and oil to their foods, and this can be a problem when preparing meals at home too.
Say No to Fries and Potato Chips
Research has shown that eating potatoes and potato chips is linked to weight gain over time, mostly because of their starch content and high calories. This is a pretty easy fix in my book, and one of my first recommendations to clients. And it shouldn’t be news to anyone – you’ve got to order a salad instead of fries.
Move, Move, and Move Some More
Your diet’s only half the battle when you’re trying to lose weight. The other 50% goes to your exercise and fitness plan, and there’s no denying that you’ve got to do both for the best results. So my last tip is a pretty basic one, but it’s crucial: you’ve got to up the ante when it comes to your workouts. And at the end of the day, you just want to make it your goal to be more active, combining both cardio and weights.
