Conclusion: The Pre-Workout Stage
The pre-workout stage is one of the most critical stages in your workout routine. How you prepare your body will determine how much you put into your workout and how much you get out of it.
Hydration is key, as are some healthy carbs for sustained energy and adequate protein intake. Recovery following your previous workout is also important, so you should be giving some thought to post workout nutrition by reading Post Workout Recovery Supplements.

Really enjoy your insight on the supplements. I never did anything more than a whey protein until I started reading your articles. I have been constantly taking supplements since the begining of March and have noticed the best results I have ever had since I started working out several years ago. My question is should I try to “change it up” with what I am taking? Would it be possible that my body would get used to the supplements and not respond as well as I would like it to after a while? I’ve been on Xtend, the Optiumum Whey, a quality multi vitamin throughout. I have been on the L-arginine for a couple of months and ZMA, L Glutamine at night time. I just run out of Assault a couple of weeks ago but I feel like I should take a break. I’m just wondering what you would suggest? Am I OK to keep doing what I am doing or should I look at different stuff that is out there? Also – I just did your 30 day program for the 2nd time around…..awesome reults….I really enjoy that program. I’ve been doing P90 and other stuff for so long that it was fun to push it on the weights. PLEASE put another program like that out soon!
Thanks

Awesome feedback, this is definitely one of the best comments I’ve had in a while! Great to hear that you have been using supplements to your advantage and have seen great results. My recommendation is definitely to mix it up, try some different brands and also take some months off here and there to prevent your body from adapting. If you haven’t yet make sure you also check out the top 10 workout supplements on the site (you can use the search function to find them).
Will have a revised 30 day program to go with my upcoming ebook about abs so stay tuned for lots more!
Thanks for the reply
For the stuff I feel should be my “staples” – whey protein, multi vitamin, Xtend…would you look at other brands? I have been using Optimum whey and enjoy it b/c it doesn’t have the aritifical sweetners like some of the other stuff out there…I know the Xtend does which I am not crazy about either but I firmly believe in that stuff. Do you think I gain anything from changing from one whey protein to the other and maybe go from Xtend to a MP Recon product or would it be such a minimal change it wouldn’t really matter. When I rotate off of a supplement how long would you suggest I stay off? Really enjoy the site…I pick up some good tips and recipes/work outs in here. Really enjoyed the “Thor” workout until I over did it on a kettle bell swing and jacked up my back.

It’s a great idea to mix it up between brands to keep your body guessing and it also makes it more interesting. 2 weeks off is a good number to hit when rotating off. Thanks for the great feedback!
