Late again to give news but I was abroad again!! The race went ok overall despite the dreadful conditions: snow or icy rain all along (start at midnight), mudd and snow all along the trail and about 32 or less for the temperatures!! Tough for a first ever and a first of the season. Beyond cold, I stopped at mile 37 on 46 but overall I'm happy, I did better than half the men (60 participants, half abandonned at lap 2) and still, I had never ran in these Swedish conditions! And I saw my progress thx to interval.

Here is my report, a bit long but I've been it's worth reading :) (in English!)

Woups, forgot to drop a line but I was abroad for 2 weeks. So now I'm really back into shape and even more than that. I dropped more than the weight I gained due to the surgery. But more importantly, I really toned up: I really really implemented the intervals during work out (really getting my pulse high between exercises or even while I'm doing it). Also, even though I wasn't really keen on that at first, I am now eating 6 times a day: 3 meals and 3 in-between meals. I also have slot in peanut butter after a friend told me it was good for the training. I'm now just taking my time while I eat because I used to binge on it when living in the States.

Come to think of it, all I'm doing is on this website and it works! Takes commitment but it's all worth it!

Hej Sam,

Well, it's taking a little bit longer... It's been about 3 weeks now and I've been held up a little bit by pains in my knees too even though I was trying to be careful. Not so happy about that. Not giving up of course but still a bit .. I don't know, angry maybe.

I've also been very sleepy after each work out too, dunno if that has a link or not. Yet, I've been careful with pre/ post work out food, at least 7h of sleep, drinking water etc...

I'll continue anyway, and let you know.

All right, no magic here! Thanks very much for the answer. I have set up an appointment with a trainer at my gym though cause I fear going too strong anyway and I had been on my routine for more than 8 weeks before surgery. So variation!
Thanks you again, I will let you know how it is going. (one month or not)

Hi GD, that's a good number to go by...one month off means one month time to recover that...take your time and be patient and above all make sure you eat well and get lots of rest.

First, I would like to thank you very, very much. I am 24 (women) competing in ultra-trail races and thanks to your great tips, I have been able to improve A whole LOT when it comes to food (recipes and supplement), exercices and other body better understanding. I dont know anybody my age doing the races I do and in a way you're my training buddy! So thank you so much.

Regarding this article, it couldnt have come at better time for me. I just had a surgery over Xmas that kept me from doing any sport for a month. Since I was back to France (studying abroad) I havent been able to be serious on food, like is short, I wanted to enjoy the good food I am missing the rest of the year. So I must have gained 2-3 kgs but mostly, I can really see that all my hard work (training 6 times a week, all sports mixed i.e. running, weight, cycle and swimming) has far gone and that is really difficult to accept. I am allowed to train back again since yesterday and I will really try hard not to go too strong at first cause I have my first competitions in March. My question therefore is the following: how long time do you think I can gain back what I lost? Does one month without training mean one month to gain back??

This upcoming season is really important to me and even though I feel depressed about my looks, I really want to fight back and I would appreciate your experience sharing on what I need to expect as regards time to regain the fit I have before Xmas to then continue getting in stronger shape (NB: my goal in the gym is to get very tone and lean and not build up the muscles).

MERCI MERCI!! TACK!
