Hi Karessa, granola is usually high in carbs and fat...I'd substitute with oatmeal at least a few times a week. Another great substitute is whey protein to help you deal with cravings and reduce your calorie intake. Try these articles - http://weightlossandtraining.com/whey-protein-isolate-vs-concentrate & http://weightlossandtraining.com/high-intensity-interval-training

One thing to watch out for, your stomach will not know what hit it. I have done this for a few years (eating all organic and natural). When I first started, I felt WONDERFUL; however, the first few weeks were filled with many bathroom breaks. My body was cleaning itself out. I am so thankful it did. Now I cannot eat any fast food without it causing problems....if that isn't motivation, I don't know what is

Hi Chantel, I believe All Bran is one of the best! Generally high fiber is usually more than 3 or 4 grams per serving and it looks like All Bran has about 10 grams so very good!

Hi Brent, those aren't too bad but you may find they aren't very filling so as long as you add a healthy salad or protein smoothie you should be ok.

How much have you changed your diet? Are you eating frequently but less? How is your sleep? These are all questions you should be asking when not seeing results. Start increasing the intensity of your exercises and try implementing some interval training. I have given some great information in recent articles on the site about these so give them a read and I'm sure you'll start to see a difference. Aim for about 1-2lbs of weight loss a week but if you're only focused on weight you're doing yourself harm. Check out my article on Weight Loss Solutions first.

Sam, i have dietary problems and if i ate what you listed i would be quite ill and possibly in hospital ! :) BUT i agree with the general premise here - to not have in the house, items that are not good for you ... out of sight and out of reach equals NOT eaten at all which equals THIN !!! From your list, i can eat meats, chicken, fish, yogurt and some vegetables and fruit. If i am having bread i have to eat white bread and the same with rice [ white ] but i do not have them very much. I also drink lots of bottled water because of the high chlorine and fluoride in tap water.

Hi Robin, try replacing artificially sweetened drinks and sugars with natural flavoring from honey, lemon/lime or even cucumber or fresh mint. Your condition sounds very specific so please also consult with your physician on what is best for you. I care about the advice I give and want to make sure you find the best solution for your situation.

What if you have a condition where you can't drink water? Do you think it's o.k to drink green tea or any other type of tea as a replacement? I have a condition that causes me to have permanent hyponetremia ( I lose sodium and retain water) extra water that I drink washes the salt from my body even if I eat alot of salt so I drink mostly green tea with Splenda and diet soda. What's your opinion on that?

this is actually a great great tip. If you have the munchies or cravings and you are searching around your house for them (because you know that they're bad for you) its good to not have them in your house. Its funny how cravings work, you want something now and right now but if you don't have it in your house you know that you can't be bothered to go out and get it. Even if you do - by the time you reach the grocery store guaranteed your craving will be gone.
Whenever I have the munchies its now not even for sweet things, its usually for fresh celery and baby carrots with low calorie zesty italian dressing (only 5 cals per tablespoon! yay!)

Hi Misha, this is a great question. White sugar is bleached with chemicals (sulfor dioxide being one of them) to make it white. What I meant to say instead of brown sugar was RAW sugar which hasn't been chemically processed (unfortunately brown sugar is just white sugar with molasses added to it). I have made the edit in this document.

Nevertheless, it's always best to use raw unprocessed foods so if you need to bake something that requires sugar, then at least try and make it with raw sugar. Overall sugar has a bad wrap though, and there is no need to ban raw sugar from your diet as long as it is in moderation.

Hope that helps?

I agree with eating fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats and whole grains...however, I was curious about brown sugar. I thought all sugar should be banned. Help me understand how brown sugar is more beneficial than white???

I agree with what you are saying about using more fresh ingredients etc. for healthy eating. I am also a big supporter of emergency preparedness.
Things like canned fruit and white rice store really well. In an emergency where you can't get to the store or job loss these things can be a life saver. You don't need to nessesarily throw all of those things away. But be smart about what you are eating. Canned goods are excellent in an emergency situation, fresh is better for a healthy life style.
Please consider both, emergency situations are all too common, think about the hurricanes and floods affecting communities all the time. Please be prepared too.
