Today I’d like to talk to you about the mineral magnesium. Although Magnesium is the ninth most abundant element in the universe and an essential element for all living organic material, what caught my attention was stumbling across a report that mentioned many people today have a deficiency of magnesium in their diets.
What’s most interesting about this is that many migraine patients have been found to have lowered levels of magnesium in their blood during a migraine attack.
Patients with insomnia, muscle twitches, and heart conditions have also been found to have lowered levels of Magnesium!
So what’s the research show when it comes to supplementation with Magenesium? Well, clinical studies of magnesium supplementation have shown to reduce the frequency of migraine headaches, a fascinating link!
On a similar note, high levels of calcium intake, such as by drinking a lot of milk or taking antacids made of calcium actually reduces the effect of magnesium in our bodies.
So if you are experiencing headaches , muscle tension or insomnia it might be a great idea to try and increase your diet with foods that are high in magnesium especially if your calcium intake is high.
Some of the foods highest in magnesium include black beans, halibut, cooked spinach, pumpkin seeds, almonds and peanuts. Sounds pretty good to me as all these foods have many other health benefits anyway!
