Healthy Lunch Ideas

Probably the easiest time to fall of our healthy eating plan is lunch time. We’re usually running around and busy with work or errands so our body starts craving energy in the form of food and it’s not uncommon that we crave the worst of foods (deep fried, high carb, high sugar foods). Therefore it’s really important that we plan out our meals the night before or morning of to helps us get past this obstacle.

Let’s take a look at 3 healthy recipes that I’ve collected which will keep your metabolism high and your stomach flat…

Healthy Lunch Recipes

Lime Tuna Salad Extravaganza

½ can tuna flakes (in water)
½ lime
1 tablespoon olive oil
¼ cup of diced bell red pepper
1 teaspoon minced fresh parsley
¼ cup thinly sliced carrots
2 sliced black olives
1 stalk minced green onion
1 ½ cup mixed greens (or spinach)
½ teaspoon black pepper flakes
1 crushed rye Wasa crispbread

Asian Chicken Pasta Salad

4 slices chopped up Kentucky style chicken from deli
½ cup whole wheat pasta bows
1 large carrot finely chopped
2 celery stalks finely chopped up
¼ large cucumber cut into strips

Dressing:
1 tablespoon rice vinegar (or white vinegar)
1 tablespoon reduced sodium soy sauce
¼ fresh red chilli seeded and finally chopped
1 teaspoon extra-virgin olive oil
½ teaspoon sesame seeds

Thanksgiving Turkey Wrap

1 whole wheat wrap
4 slices Turkey breast from deli
½ yam boiled and mashed
¼ cup mixed greens
1 tablespoon canned corn
1 tablespoon cranberry sauce
1 teaspoon coarse black pepper

Looks pretty easy and tasty hey? Start with these 3 ideas and substitute other vegetables in to keep them interesting. Of course you can also add any herb you have kicking around that you like to add some more flavour too!

Keeping You On Track

Now one other tip worth mentioning is to have a mid-morning snack to keep your cravings and energy levels in check.

Some great mid-morning snacks would include:
½ cup of vanilla yogurt with 2 tablespoons frozen berries
Your favourite fruit (orange, banana, apple)
Handful of almonds
Fruit smoothie (take a look at fruit smoothie recipes – http://weightlossandtraining.com/fruitsmoothie-recipes)

Conclusion

Hope you enjoyed these healthy lunch ideas. If you have others you’d like to suggest please leave a comment below…

    Hi Sam

I have been looking at the healthy receipes and wondered how much would half a cup be in grammes or quarter cup ? i prefer to use weight measurements and that way i know i am using the right amount.

i am not sure if i am using the right size of cup as they come in some many differenct sizes !

use a cup that is 250ml in size…everything differs in weight so half a cup of nuts would be heavier than half a cup of spinach. Don’t get caught up on exact measurements, enjoy eating food instead and eat smaller portions more often and stick to healthy non processed foods like in this lunch ideas article.

hey sam i was reading your article and alot of the ingrediants were things that you have to go out and buy or something . how about something more simpler and more regular that you dont have to search for all these specific ingrediants?

Just make a list of these next time your grocery shopping and make a habit of buying them…they really make your lunches tasty and are worth the effort to enjoy what you eat and stay healthy at the same time.

Hi Sam I will try the breakfast the the lunch ideas and hope it will make diff.
Oh I will try the water too but my Question is I do not wake uo by 8 at all I start my day 2 pm. so Do u think it will work that way ??

  8. Sam on August 14th, 2009 4:46 pm

It will work if you are just resetting the time to when you wake up and count the hours from there as if it were a normal day. Good luck on finding a job which has more normal hours so you can be at your best health. :)

hi, just wanna know, i eat white rice daily, but i wnt to have a toned abs.
    so, is it ok??

  10. Sam on December 6th, 2009 4:07 pm

Hi Ben, white rice can be ok depending on when and how much you eat it. Best time would be an hour before workout or within an hour after…best to switch to brown rice for other times. The main point is that you need to be careful with calories coming in compared to how much you are expending each day via exercise.

Got something to say?
