As a NLP therapist and practising hypnotist, I would suggest that the desire to overeat, similar to any self-sabotaging behaviour, is driven out of one's subconscious. Creating an unconscious change with conscious/cognitive behaviour requires tremendous will power, determination and hard work. These are great virtues to learn and I encourage anyone who believes they can achieve this.
I would also say to those who suffer from a recurring theme of ups & downs, that you can create a lasting change with ease if you were to learn some NLP skills and used self hypnosis programs. That's if you don't wish to visit a professional (I say this because some people might feel the need to see evidence before committing to spending a couple of hundred dollars on a professional NLP therapist).

Recommendation:
- Read a book about NLP to learn some excellent techniques for influencing your own unconscious mind.
- Visit a couple of NLP websites and communities to ask for tips and advice.

These are minimal in cost but will have a great impact in helping you achieve your goals.

ps. I have personally lost 30kg since becoming a NLP practitioner and speak from personal experience.

A brisk 15-minute walk has been shown to be a great appetite suppressant as well.
