Health & Wellness Series
Every once in a while I come across some media content that really holds a ton of value. In this case, I’d have to say it had to do with the queen of talk shows, Oprah Winfrey. Stay with me here even if you’re a macho guy who thinks that the content she talks about is just for women, in this case it is definitely not.

So you know why it’s not? Because Oprah is using her defeat with the weight loss war as an example to show us the psychology of why she can conquer almost anything she touches, but not the most important thing in her life…her own health!

Filling a Void with Overeating
I recently wrote an article about Overeating Causes and How to Stop, but Oprah brings to light something even deeper when looking at the causes.

You know what it is? It’s simply that you are unhappy with one or more parts in your life. Whether it be your career, social life, family, spouse or lack thereof it is essential to find the real reason of what is the cause of your overeating.

Health and Wellness Exercise
In fact, make this an exercise. Stop for a minute here, and on a piece of paper write down at least 3 reasons you think may be leading your overeating. Then take another few minutes to really think of the possible solutions to either solve or prevent this from happening.

I know I overeat at times when my eating schedule has been messed with stress at work and I didn’t have my protein shake. I then get cravings for the worst kind of sweets. Another time I overeat is when I’ve had too much alcohol, and all of a sudden I want deep fried foods and lose control of keeping it in moderation.

Conclusion:
Hopefully, you can be as honest as I have been and find out the real reasons when you tend to overeat. Identify your crutches, but don’t stop there. By taking it a step further and thinking of solutions to prevent this from happening is something that is even beyond most health professional’s advice.

Stay tuned for the next part in the Health and Wellness series where I will discuss the most important strategy to implement when dealing with your diet and nutrition.

As a NLP therapist and practising hypnotist, I would suggest that the desire to overeat, similar to any self-sabotaging behaviour, is driven out of one’s subconscious. Creating an unconscious change with conscious/cognitive behaviour requires tremendous will power, determination and hard work. These are great virtues to learn and I encourage anyone who believes they can achieve this.
I would also say to those who suffer from a recurring theme of ups & downs, that you can create a lasting change with ease if you were to learn some NLP skills and used self hypnosis programs. That’s if you don’t wish to visit a professional (I say this because some people might feel the need to see evidence before committing to spending a couple of hundred dollars on a professional NLP therapist).

    Recommendation:
    - Read a book about NLP to learn some excellent techniques for influencing your own unconscious mind.
    - Visit a couple of NLP websites and communities to ask for tips and advice.

These are minimal in cost but will have a great impact in helping you achieve your goals.

ps. I have personally lost 30kg since becoming a NLP practitioner and speak from personal experience.
