Cardio Workout – Which One is Better?
One of the most common questions I’ve been getting lately is about which cardio workout is the most effective. There are a few different angles we can look at here, and what I want you to get out of it is some great momentum that you can flow into your workouts.
Let’s first look at some of the most common cardio exercises which will help you burn that lazy couch fat!
Here’s a short list: treadmill, bike machine, elliptical, hiking, jumping rope, and swimming.
Without a doubt the most challenging of these is high interval intensity training on the treadmill. This is the simply the most challenging and you’ll notice the difference with your heart rate when you try it. From my extensive experience with different cardio workouts, it simply can’t be beat when fat burning is your goal.
A close second is jumping rope. Just try this for 10 minutes and see how it pushes you through managing coordination and speed at the same time.
Swimming is another fantastic cardio exercise but because it involves almost every muscle in your upper body it may be a little tricky to include it with an intense weight training workout. The reason is because it doesn’t give you the time to recover on your days away from the gym.
As for the rest of them (hiking, elliptical, bike machine) they are all pretty good as you can take it a little lighter until you gain the strength and stamina to go hard.
All of the so far mentioned cardio activities kick butt on any gimmicky crap you see on tv. Those are just pure simply marketing in disguise and if it isn’t giving you a real good challenge and a sweat it is NOT going to to work.
Now there is one factor that comes into play with any of these and that is your mental game. No matter how difficult the cardio exercise is at first you need to give yourself a break and realize that it will get easier each time you do it.
The trick is to get consistency with it so your body adapts and soon you’ll notice some pretty impressive results in the mirror. At this stage you can really take it up a notch and start adding some creative variety.
The more you do it the more fun it will be and you have to remember that one part! I say it all the time, if you’re not having fun with your cardio and diet plan then you are missing the whole point. Being healthy can sometimes be a challenge but your mental focus on the results will pave your path if you let it.
After a little while you’ll be pretty good at almost any cardio activity or sport and trying new ones like kickboxing, rowing, rollerblading, or even pilates and power yoga, so play with it and challenge yourself all the time to keep your motivation and excitement high.
